About SHEEPDOG

Working for several years as supervisorial staff for a school district, it became apparent that certain aspects of student safety, specifically in today’s dangerously changing climate of school shootings, was not a point of focus. This head-in-the-sand approach across the country has proven to allow nefarious actors easier access to our children and bring out the justifiable anger and frustrations of parents and communities nationwide.

A new “structured play” program was adopted short years ago, encouraging elementary students to play specific games (as chosen, taught, and supervised by staff) during their recess. I balked at this notion, as recess is time students have earned to choose their own activity. Reading a book, culturing social skills that technology is quickly making a thing of the past, or just using one’s imagination to transform a tree into a pirate ship or the jungle-gym into a castle were discouraged in favor of regimentation and conformity.

For years I repeated the same comment on my job in relation to this program;

“I will never have to face a parent and try to make excuses for why their child was yanked through a

chainlink fence because I was busy teaching a bunch of third-graders how to play four square. I am a

sheepdog. I watch over and protect my flock. I do not teach sheep how to eat grass. Sheep already know

how to eat grass, and if they don’t, other sheep will teach them. I am a sheepdog.”

With repeated demonstrations of disregard for the safety of students and staff from a new administration, I dedicated myself to trying to make a difference. Sheepdog Safety Consulting was my response. Bringing a lifetime of skills not usually found in the education community that are best suited to situational awareness, safety, and details, along with an insider’s view of the ins and outs of the public school system, Sheepdog developed a program encompassing and addressing the needs of our evolving communities.

We look forward with great enthusiasm to hearing from you and sharing our commitment to the safety of those who need us most. Let’s get started on our shared goals.
